Abstract

The objective of this work is to study the extraction behaviour of some selected metal ions as Eu3+, Ce3+, UO22+ and Th4+ using Amberlite XAD4/DEHPA and Amberlite XAD4/DHDECMP impregnated resins from nitrate solution of different nitric acid concentrations, the factors affecting the extraction have been also studied. Also comparing the extraction behaviour by these impregnated resins with the extraction behaviour of the above mentioned elements by a mixtures of DEHPA and TBP loaded on Amberlite XAD4. This work also aims at studying the extraction chromatography of urinal ion using column technique on DEHPA/Amberlite XAD4 and DHDECMP resins.A presentation of the solvent impregnated resin is given. The classification of the organophosphorus extractants, the support materials used in most studies, the methods of preparation of the solvent impregnated resins, properties of the solvent impregnated resin, mechanism of the impregnation, stabilization of solvent impregnated resins, sorption kinetics, column operation of solvent impregnated resins, the aqueous chemistry of the mentioned elements, temperature and the thermodynamic functions, thermodynamic stability of complexes and the synergistic solvent extraction have been mentioned also. The second chapter includes the chemicals used in the present study, preparation of solutions, description of the apparatus, preparation of the solvent impregnated resins, extraction techniques, elution experiments and column operation technique are mentioned in detail.Chapter three includes the results obtained, their analysis and discussion. It is divided into two separate parts.
