Abstract This study was concerned with histopathologic and cell mediated immunological effect of Nigella sativa ( NS ) oil on the occurance and progression of chemicallyinduced carcinogenesis in hamster cheek pouch utilizing 0.5% DMBA dissolved in heavy mineral oil . This study wad conducted on 50 males hamsters divided into three groups: Group I (10 animals): painted with the carcinogen 3 times/ week/ 6weeks. Group II (25 animals): given NS oil orally 3 times/ week/ 6weeks then 5 animals were sacrificed and the remaining 20 animals were divided into 2 subgroups: Subgroup IIa (10 animals) : painted with DMBA 3 times/ week/ 6weeks. Subgroup IIb (10 animals): painted with DMBA and given NS oil at the same time 3 times/ week/ 6weeks Group III (15animals): painted with DMBA and given NS oil at the same time 3 times/ week/ 6weeks The following results were obtained:<U+2022> Subgroup IIb exhibited no apparent dysplastic changes as well as increased lymphocytic infilteration.<U+2022> Subgroup IIa & group III showed mild dysplasia with increased lymphocytic infilteration if compared with the malignant changes and lymphocytic response of group. |
