Abstract

Garlic is one of the most important vegetable crops in the whole world, due to its great nutrition and economical values. It is mostly used as a condiment and its oil is mainly used in a certain medical preparations. In Egypt, garlic crop is mainly cultivated for the purpose of local consumption and exporting. The nonuniformity of plant spacing during manual planting of garlic crop causes many contrasts in size of garlic bulbs at harvesting. Also, labours walking inside the wetted fields transferred shetosomas. The garlic planter machine is mainly required to perform and execute all of the mechanical functions such as; open the furrow, meter clove, deposit the clove in the furrow in an acceptable pattern, and cover the clove and compact the soil around the clove. This research work is mainly aimed to develop a machine for planting Egyptian garlic. Therefore the main goal of this study is to develop and arrive at a suitable mechanism to reduce cloves scattering and damage and test and evaluate this mechanism in the laboratory and field. The main objective of the laboratory test was to select and focus on the optimum engineering functions. The experimental field aimed to study the Effect of forward speed (2, 3.6 and 4 km/h), spring compressive stress (19.6, 29.4 and 39.2 N/cm2) and planting depth (3, 5, and 7 cm) on actual longitudinal cloves spacing, actual feed rate and metering feed rate, germination and emergence rates, scattering ratio, fuel consumption and energy requirements and total costs of garlic planter. This study recommended that The optimum operation of modifying planter were forward speed was 3.6 km/h, spring compressive stress was 29.2 N/cm2 and concluded depth was 5 cm.
