Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the effect of two native strains (Golden Montazah and Matrouh) of chickens and some light colors (green, white and incandescent) and their interaction during the rearing and laying periods on the productive performance. The obtained results in the present study could be summarized as follows Rearing period: Effect of strain: The Golden Montazah birds surpassed Matrouh ones in live body weight, body weight gain and feed consumption. Golden Montazah pullets needed less amount of feed to gave one unit of live body weight than Matrouh ones by about 5.8%. Effect of light color The green light had significantly (P<0.01) better live body weight, weight gain feed conversion ratio for those birds exposed to the white and incandescent lights. The birds exposed to white light consumed obviously the biggest amount of feed than those kept under incandescent and green lights. Laying period Effect of strain The Golden Montazah birds surpassed Matrouh ones in age at different rates of egg production, live body weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio and egg number. The Matrouh birds were significantly (P<0.01) better than those of Golden Montazah ones in egg weight, fertility and hatchability of fertile eggs or of all eggs. Effect of light color The birds exposed to white light were the best in respect of age of different rates of egg production, live body weight, feed conversion and egg number than incandescent and green lights. The egg weight at the all intervals were significantly (P<0.01) heavier in green light than those of white and incandescent lights. The superiority of incandescent light than white and green light in feed conversion. Golden Montazah chickens surpassed Matrouh strain in body weight and egg production performance. The birds kept under green light during the rearing period attained superior performance, as measured by live body weight. However, in terms of egg production, the white or incandescent lights proved to be the best.
