Abstract

The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of treatment of female rabbits with some hormonal recombinants from 4 up to 6 months of age on morphological and histological development of the mammary gland, milk yield, milk composition and bunnies performance at different lactation weeks. A total of 60 female immature NZW rabbits at 4 months of age were used. Rabbits were assigned to four treatment groups (15 animals in each group). G1: was injected with 0.75 ml/saline solution (Control). G2: was injected with 0.10 mg E2 and 0.025 mg P4 /kg LBW.G3: was injected with one I.U. Insulin/kg LBW.G4: was injected with 2.5 <U+00B5>g altroxin /kg LBW. Rabbits were injected biweekly with the experimental doses subcuteneously on the neck region starting from 4 months of age. Resulted revealed that average live body weight (LBW) average daily gain and feed conversion of does was not affected significantly by treatment at 4 6 months of age and sulking period. While, LBW of does was affected significantly by treatments at the 4th week of pregnancy. Teat measurements was affected significantly by treatment during 46 mo of age and suckling period. LBW at the 1st service was not affected by treatment, but conception rate and lowest in P4+E2 group. Average daily milk yield significantly (P<0.0015) increased by about 60% between the 1st and 2nd week of lactation. Further increase by about 25% occurred between the 2nd and 3rd week. However, there was significant (P<0.0015) reduction in daily milk yield by about 21% from the 3rd to the 4th week. Milk fat percentage was not affected significantly by treatment. The morphological and histological characteristics of the mammary gland showed the best result in P4+E2 group. Results of LBW and viability of bunnies were not affected by the left and right side before or after suckling. The glandular length was 32.08 cm in E2+P4 group and 38.0 cm in the control. versus 36.08 and 35.83 cm in insulin and altroxin groups, respectively, being longer on the left than the right (31.87 vs. 39.12 cm) side in all groups. Width and thickness were nearly similar in all groups at both right and left side. The differences in the glandular volumes were not significant.
