Abstract Aphakic eyes are very likely to devel-op retinal detachment than aphakic eyes. The incidence of retinal detachment following extraction 1.5 to 2.2% whatever intra or extra-capsular extraction and respective to the use of alpha chymotrypsin. The incidence of myopia was reported. to be 30% of all aphakic retinal detachment. The higher incidence of about 10% ws following congenital detachment. The factors that may predispose an aphakic eye to retinal detachment are: 1. The surgical trauma of a routine extraction. 2. Complimentation of watar surgery specially rupture of hyaloid face with various loss. 3. An increased incidence of peripheral retinal breaks. In addition the instability of the vitreous after cataract extraction which is explained on the basis of its molecular morphology as an event of decreased hyaluronic acid. There is also tittle doubt that vitreous detachment in aphakic eyes is a major factor in the development of retinal detachment and that most of retinal tears are caused by this process. |
