Abstract Praziquantel (Bactericide) is a new oral antibilharzial drug. The present work was carried out to study the histopathological changes in some of the internal organs of albino rat following administration of that drug. Forty adult males and females of albino rats were used. Both the male rats (20) and female rats (20) were arranged in five groups I-V • Animals of group I Were used as controls. Animals of groups II to V were given bactericide orally. The drug was given as an oral single dose calculated according to Puget and Bananas table (1964) , regarding the human therapeutic dose 20 mg/kg body weigh to the animals of the groups II to V Were sacrificed at one week intervals • At each time, specimens were taken from different parts of stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, large intestine, liver, pancreas, spleen, kidney, urethra, urinary bladder, gonads (testis and ovary), lung and cardiac muscle • Paraffin sections were prepared and stained with Ha.emntoxylin and eosin. Erosions of the surface epithelium with mucosal congestion were observed in the stomach and small intestine, during the first two weeks after drug administration. |
