Abstract

Helicobacter (previously Campylobacter) pylori is a human gastric pathogen that was first isolated and cultured from gastric mucosa by marshall et al. (1984). These organisms are microaerophilic, Gram negative, curved or spiral with 4-6 lophortichous flagells. Helicobacter pylori has the unique ability to colonize the gastric epithelium, while it is rarely found to be assocaiated with other tissue of the human body. The spiral nature and cork screw like motility permit it to penetrate gastric mucosa.
