Abstract

The goal of this work is to study the value of bone marrow biopsy versus bone marrow aspiration in the diag¬nosis and staging of some haematological disorders. We selected 51 cases from the inpatient in the Med¬ical Departement of Mansoura University Hospital and they were classified into the following groups:- Group I : 6 problematic cases of severe anaemia. Group II : 9 leukaemic patients. Group III: 8 patients with Hodgkin~s • Group IV : 28 patients with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. All cases were subjected to thorough history, clin¬ical examination and the following investigations:- Full blood picture, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, liver and kindeny function tests, lymph node biopsy if there is lymphadenopathy, plain x ray chest and chest tomography, abdominal ultrasonography, intravenous pyel¬ography when needed, bone marrow aspiration and bone marrow trephine biopsy. The following results were observed :_ a) Group I : Both bone marrow aspiration and biopsy were essential for the diagnosis of the type and the , cause of anaemia in our cases. Howeyer bone marrow biopsy is of special importance when repeated trials of marrow aspiration revealed a dry tap, also the.
