Abstract

Rice is the most important crop in Egypt after cotton, which has a great effect on human alimenattion. the planted area of rice was 1.058.202 feddan in 1989 and the production was about 2.500.000 tons.
It is also considered the most important cereal crop in the world, from view-point of production and foof supply.
In 1970, about 40% of Egypt rice production was exported (Hamad,1979). But due to the dramatic increase in population in recent years, it is expected that Egypt will start to import rice, unless a radical solution uprised in order to increase the rice production by increasing the planted area and adapting new varieties that have high productivity.
