Abstract
The present study has been carried out to determine the different textural and mineralogical characteristics of the Bahariya Formation (Lower Cretaceous) exposed at Gebel El - Dist, Bahariya Oasis. The distribution of water soluble cations and anions in the Bahariya Formation were also determined. The results obtained have been used to establish the mode of transportation and environment of deposition of the Bahariya Formation. The main findings and conclusions of the present study are outlined in the following : 1) The Bahariya Formation consists of single beds and bedsets. The former are mainly sandstones, some of them are even non-parallel beds ; others are curved non-parallel.
