Abstract

The anther / microspore culture technique has opened new dimension for plant breeding and genetic applications. The production of haploid plants is a rapid route to complete homozygosity, expression of recessive genes and mutation, which are of great potential usefulness to plant breeders, especially for improving the efficiency of selection in relatively small populations. In the field of biotechnology, gene transformation to haploid cells (micro spores) and getting plantlets save the time and efforts as well as release of new wheat cultivars with good characters.
