Abstract

Water and fish {Bolty, T. zillii and Qarmot, C. lazera) samples were collected during Winter and Summer for the analyses of abiotic and biotic factors to test the pollution status of the Southern region of this lake. Since many reports and debates on the lake pollution were undertaken and referred to the low growth rates of Tilapia species in this lake in comparison to those of the other Egyptian lakes (Bayoumi and Khalil, 1988). Particularly the maximum fish catch (85% of the total lake catch) was obtained from this Southern region. Moreover, the small illegal size fishes contributed a remarkable portion (63- 96%) of the lake fishery as a result of progressive eutrophication and pollution of the lake water (EI-Serafi and Abdei-Baqi, 1990). Therefore, there were no fish to be sampled, for the present study, in the first two sublocations of area B; in addition to the predominance of Qarmot in area Band of Bolty in area A.
