Abstract

Background :Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most malignant tumors affecting humans with an increasing incidence allover the world. HCC is the fifth most common tumor worldwide and the third cause of cancer-related deaths. Chronic ýhepatitis B and C as well as cirrhosis, irrespective of their etiology, are recognized ýas the major factors increasing the risk of HCC.ý Possible treatment modalities for HCC had developed including liver ýtransplantation, surgical approaches, liver directed therapy and systemic therapy ýý(chemotherapy and newer drugs targeting tumor pathways). Such advancements ýwill hopefully be translated into improved survival in those patients.ý As the prognosis of HCC is extremely poor and effective treatment for ýpatients with advanced HCC has not yet been established, the early detection of ýHCC is important for its effective treatment. ý Aim:ý A trial to disclose the updates in diagnosis and prognosis of hepatocellular ýcarcinoma and to what extent these data could be valuable for early and proper ýmanagement of such a rather common neoplasm.ý Conclusion:ý We should not wait the traditional clinical picture of HCC and we ýrecommend a high index of suspension adherent to proper screening strategy to ýcatch the very early cases. BCLC can identify appropriate cases for potentially ýcurative treatment. So long transplantation of early cases of HCC is the most ýappropriate potentially curative treatment, we hope that this modality will be more available in the near future
