Abstract

BACKGROUND: A balance between blood clot development and blood clot breakdown is important for maintaining the integrity of the cardiovascular system. ET-1 induces vasoconstriction, is proinflammatory, and promotes fibrosis. These effects are mediated via two receptors types, endothelin type A and endothelin type B receptors. The aim of the present work is to through a beam of light on the effect of ET-1, obesity and exercise on the fibrinolytic parameters METHODS: 120 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 2 groups:
group (A) non obese group,
group (B) obese group and both groups were further subdivided into 6 groups each included 10 rats. .
RESULTS: Endothelin produced inhibition in the fibrinolytic activity in obese and non obese rats by decreasing t-PA antigen and increasing PAI-1. Exercise produced increase in the fibrinolytic activity in both groups. Obesity produced inhibition in the fibrinolytic activity.
CONCLUSION: Any disease associated with increased endothelin level is associated with depression of the fibrinolytic activity. Obese are more liable to thrombosis than non obese. Exercise either acute exercise or training enhances the fibrinolytic activity.
