Abstract Orgqnic brominating agents have recieved considerable attention in the last decade as analytical reagents. They were prepared firstly to be used in the synthesis and carrying out certain organic reactions. However, it was observed that, most of these reactions are complete stoichiometrically Hence, they have been tried in the determination of a manifold number of pharmaceutical compounds In this study, special interest was focused on two of these reagents; namely : 1,3-Dibromo, 5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DBH)and N-Bromosuccinbnide (NBS). These two compounds have been reappraised in an analytical study of certain pharmaceutical compounds, namely : penicillins, N-substituted phenothiazine derivatives and some quinoline derivatives New titrimetric procedures for the micro and semimicro detennination of these compounds and their formulations were developed The thesis is divided into 5 main parts as follows Part I : $iummarizes the applications, reactions and advan- tages of the organic brominating agents Part II : A survey on the reactions of DBH and NBS with some penicillins. The compounds investigated are : benzy lpenicillin, ampi9illin sodium, amoxycillin trihydrate, |
