Abstract
In this prospectively designed study, 100 patients with PD in the period between October 2002 and November 2006. Twenty five healthy subjects were taken as control group. Also twenty five healthy, first degree relatives of PD patients, were recruited to participate in an ongoing neuro-radiological evaluation program. Our results showed that the Conventional MRI revealed a significant reduction of SN width in patients group & increased hypointensity; these differences directly correlate with the disease severity as well as disease duration & are more severe in late onset Parkinson’s disease. The MRI diffusion image failed to differentiate between patients and control groups. While, MR spectroscopy revealed a reduction in mean NAA/Cho & NAA/Cr in patients, especially in the putamen, which was prominent in drug naïve PD patients .
