Abstract

Vicia faba seeds consumed as a cheep source of protein in our country. Faba bean as well as other leguminous crops contains phytic acid acting as antinutritional factor. Phytic acid reduces nutritional value of faba bean. The present study aims to improve faba bean quality via mineral, farmyard manure and mixed fertilizers with different foliar nutrient applications. This thesis includes two major studies: cytological and physiological; cytological studies include the effect of mineral, farmyard manure and mixed fertilizers with different foliar nutrient applications on mitotic index, phase index, chromosome abnormalities, pollen fertility and anatomical structure of treated plant leaves. Also, physiological studies include effect of fertilizers (mineral, farmyard and mixed) with different foliar nutrient applications on yield, macro and micro nutrients uptake and phytic acid concentration of faba bean plant. The obtained data revealed that the majority of the treatments induced more or less the same mitotic index or slightly lower mitotic index compared with the control as in case of NAA foliar application with mineral fertilization. The treatment NPK and yeast foliar application with mineral fertilization and foliar applications (B,Mo,Co) and Yeast with farmyard manure fertilization induced a slightly elevation in mitotic index as well as a significant increase in mitotic index in case of mixed fertilizers with ( Tm, Yeast and Tm+o) foliar applications. From these results, it could be concluded that, all fertilizers (mineral, farmyard and mixed) gave the lowest values of phytic acid concentration with yeast foliar application.
