Abstract

This study was planned to evaluate clinically and radiographically the use of resorbable collagen membrane versus the high density Polytetrafluoroethylene with immediate implant. Fourteen patients were involved in this study. All patients were selected from the Oral Surgery Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Mansoura University according to certain criteria to replace a single non-restorable maxillary anterior tooth.
The patients were equally divided into two groups. In group (1), tooth replacement was achieved using immediately placed dental implant in conjunction with synthetic resorbable bone substitute material (Beta-Tricalciumphosphate) and resorbable collagen membrane. In group (2), tooth replacement was performed using immediately placed dental implant in conjunction with bone substitute material and non-resorbable d-PTFE membrane.
Patients were evaluated clinically and radiographically at 3, 6, and 12 months. Clinical evaluation included membrane exposure, implant stability, gingival health, peri-implant probing depth, and esthetics. Radiographic evaluation used to determine changes of marginal bone level.
All other evaluated clinical and radiographic parameters revealed no significant difference between the two groups. In group (1), there was significant different regarding to all the evaluated parameters at different time intervals.
In group (2), there was also a significant difference regarding to the evaluated parameters at different time intervals except for the marginal bone level, which showed no significant difference at 3, 6 or 12 months.
