Abstract

Combined equipment for oilseed separation, and for chopping of the
non-grain parts of sunflower biological mass was designed, locally manufactured, and evaluated. It performs many functional processes namely: scrubbing sunflower heads for oilseed separation, oilseed collecting, and chopping the heads and stalks to be used as an alternative animal feed.
The performance of the developed equipment has been tested versus different design and operating parameters. Performance evaluation of the fabricated equipment has been done in terms of equipment productivity, seed damage, seed cleaning efficiency, uniformity of head chopping, and both power and cost units required for accomplishing all processes.
The obtained results concluded that:
• * The proper performance of that equipment has been achieved at scrubbing drum speed of 7.35 m/s, clearance concave of 40 mm. while the proper chopping drum speed 28.78 m/s at feeding rate of 330.11 kg /h . whereas, at these operating conditions maximum equipment productivity value s of 162.86 threshing seed/h, and 155.69 chopped heads/h, Threshing efficiency of 99%, visible seed damage 1.66 % , Cleaning efficiency 93.65 %, Seed loses 3.47 % , and power unit required for accomplishing all processes of 12.25 Kw
• * The maximum percentages 66%,70%, 76 % and 72 % of chopped head lengths in the range of 30-40 mm , cutting drum speed of 15.96, 22.57 ,28.78 and 32.05 m/sec respectively .The highest distribution percentage was 80% of chopped head lengths in the range of 20-40 mm at cutting drums speeds of 28.78 m/sec.
• * The maximum power value consumption of 12.25 Kw for operating the equipment was required at feeding rate of 0.330 ton/h and PTO speed of 450 rpm. Average Energy consumption for threshing and chopping was 38.49 kw.h /ton, and the unit machinery cost was 111.23 LE/ton for threshing and cutting sunflower.
• *The results of this study recommended using the designed equipment for threshing and cutting sunflower heads with high performance at 330.11 kg /h feeding rate, 7.35 m/s, clearance concave of 40 mm and 28.78 m/s cutting speed.
