Abstract

Uric acid (2,6,8-trioxopurine) is produced in mammalian systems as an end product of purine metabolism. It is present in human plasma in almost saturating concentrations (up to 0.6 mM). Due to its small solubility, any excess of uric acid in blood is deposited in joints or tissues, leading to diseases such as goat and rheumatism. It is generally assumed that uric acid is a powerful antioxidant and a scavenger of singlet oxygen and radicals. The role of urate is discussed in a broader context of the plasma antioxidant activity.Liebig is the first scientist who discover the compound named hippuric acid which was isolated from equine urine and in contrast to benzoic acid, it contains nitrogen. Hipuric acid is synthesized in the liver as derivative of glycine as a metabolite of benzoic acid urinary excretion. The study reported in this thesis deals with synthesis, characterization and structural investigation of some new complexes formed during the reaction of uric acid and hipuric acid with some metal ions. Based on the data obtained the prepared complexes were formulated as;Cd(Hua)2]4H2O, [Sr(Hua)2(H2O)2], [Ba(Hua)2(H2O)2], [Ce(Hua)3]6H2O,Sm(Hua)3]4H2O, [Ce(Hua)2(H2O)2]SO4, [Ce(Hua)2(SO4)]2H2O,V(hip)3]15H2O, [Cr(hip)3]6H2O, [Fe(hip)3]1.5H2O, [La(hip)3]4H2O,[Ce(hip)3]7H2O, [Sm(hip)3]8H2O.
