Abstract

Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma are a collection of lymphoid malignancies with a diverse pathology and natural history which have differing pattern of behavior and response to treatment.
Multiple drug resistance-1 (MDR-1) gene/P-glycoprotein over expression occurs with various frequencies in lymphoma and is associated with clinical drug resistance to various anti cancer drugs.
Only 40% or fewer of CHOP treated patients are cured, therefore many patients will require salvage treatment.
MINE regimen is one of most promising regimens for relapsed and refractory NHLS.
This study had been carried out in medical oncology and hematology unit. Internal Medicine Department, Zagazig University Hospital, between July 2003 and December 2004 on 40 patients with relapsed or refractory aggressive NHLS.
Each patient was subjected to complete history, complete physical examination, staging “according to Ann Arbor staging system” routine laboratory investigation and evaluation of P.glycoprotein by immunohistochemistry.
All the patients were treated with MINE and evaluated after three cycles and responding patients continued for 6 cycles then response and toxicity were evaluated.
Our results showed that:
¥ P.glycoprotein over expression was +ve in 37.
