Abstract

The thesis falls into three parts :
The first part comprises the literature review for the different methods used for the analysis of the investigated drugs. The methods discussed include spectrophotometry, fluorimetry, paleography, titrimetry and chromatography. The chemical structures and pharmacological actions of the mentioned compounds have also been discussed.
The second part deals with the development of spectrophotometric procedures for the quantitative determination of the mentioned compounds through charge transfer complexation reaction. The suggested methods based on determination of these compounds vie their oximes or hydrazones (osazones) derivatives. Then subjected to complexation with iodine as sigma (6)-acceptor and with chloranil; TCNE (tetracyanoethylene) as Pi(-)-acceptors. Accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and reproducibility of the developed methods for the different compounds analyzed were studied statistically. The methods were applied for both pure form of drugs and in their dosage forms. The results obtained were compared with those of the corresponding official method in each case. The proposed methods showed good agreement with the official methods; moreover they are more selective and sensitive.
The third part deals with the structure elucidation of the reaction products by application of the modern spectroscopic techniques. This includes UV/visible, IR, far IR, H1, C13 –NMR, MS, FAB-MS, and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra, and micro analysis. The results obtained were discussed in details.
