Abstract

The primary purpose of MARYSUM
any health care facility is to provide the best possible care. Nurses play an important role in determining both the quality and cost of health care services. The basic quality of care given and the efficiency with which the facility operates are ultimately a reflection of personnel performance.
The aim of the present study was to analyze the job of staff nurses working at coronary care unit, design a job description based on the analyzed data, and test validity of the designed format from the experts’ point of view.
The study was conducted in the coronary care units (CCU) at Zagazig University Hospitals. The subjects of the study consists of four groups, namely staff nurses or jobholders, direct supervisors, physicians, and nursing experts. The physicians group included all the available 33 physicians working in CCU during the time of the study. Staff nurses group consisted of 46 staff nurses working at CCU, with secondary school nursing diploma and/or a specialty diploma. Their direct nursing supervisors were 30 nurse leaders working in CCU, with bachelor degree in nursing or a diploma with specialty. The nursing experts group consisted of 60 teaching staff members from Medical Surgical Nursing, and Nursing Administration departments of Zagazig, Cairo, and Ain Shams universities.
Data were collected using three tools, namely a self-administered questionnaire form, and observation checklist, and an opinionnaire sheet.
The questionnaire form was developed by the researcher with the aim of eliciting opinions of the three groups of subjects, namely staff nurses, direct supervisors, and physicians, regarding the intended job description. Elements of the questionnaire were job title, summary, relationships, duties and responsibilities, and qualifications.
