Abstract The present investigation provides a detailed ecological and microbiological studies on ten selected medicinal plants growing naturally in two habitats types in Egypt , namely north- east Nile Delta (El - Dakahlyia Governorate)and desert (Cairo - Suez desert road and Wadi Hagul). The selected plants include Mentha longifolia, Cyperus alopecuroides, Withania somnifera, Datura stramonium, Silybum marianum, Plantago major, Hyoscyamus muticus, Pulicaria undulate, Achillea fragrantissima and Artemisia judaica. The environmental factors prevailing in the habitats supporting theses selected species were studied to clarify the range of environmental factors with which they can live and grow. The natural vegetation was analyzed to demonstrate their abundance in relation to other associated species. The extract of wild medicinal plants are tested against some pathogenic fungi e.g. Botrytis fabae , Fusarium solani , Fusarium oxysporum , Aspergillus flavus and Rhizocotina solani . Datura stramonium , Silybum marianum , Achillea fragrantissima and Artemisia judaica showed the highest inhibition effect. The positive effect of mixture extract of three high potential medicinal plants namely: Silybum marianum , Achillea fragrantissima and Artemisia judiaca on Fusarium solani and Fusarium oxysporum is relatively higher than the effect of the extract of these plants alone . |
