Abstract

The thesis is devoted for developing new methods for determination of some antihypertensive drugs, including lercanidipine HCl (LER), enalapril maleate (ENM), furosemide (FUR), bumetanide (BUM) and labetalol HCl (LBT) in pure forms and in their pharmaceutical preparation The thesis is divided into 6 parts:-Part I provides a general introduction about the classification of the antihypertensive drugs.
Part II describes a reversed phase HPLC with UV-detection for the determination of LER alone and simultaneously with ENM in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations.
Part III describes a stability indicating spectrofluorometric method was adopted for the determination of LER in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations in the presence of its impurities via reduction using Zinc/HCl. The fluorescence of the product was measured at λex/λem= 350/445 nm.
Part IV describes two derivative spectrophotometric methods (zero-crossing first derivative and ratio derivative spectrophotometry) for the simultaneous determination of an antihypertensive mixture of ENM and LER in pure form, synthetic mixture and tablet preparations.
Part V describes a simple spectrophotometric procedure for the determination of LBT and LER. The was based on the reaction of the two drugs with ferric-1,10-phenathroline reagent to form red color peaking at 510 nm without interference from common tablet additives, surfactants and sensitizers. The method was applied for the determination of the two drugs in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations.
Part VI describes simultaneous first derivative synchronous fluorimetry for the determination of binary mixtures of antihypertensive drugs (LBT, FUR and BUM) in pure form and in synthetic mixtures
In all parts, the validation criteria, experimental parameters and proposed schemes of the developed methods were intensively studied and explained. All the results were statistically analyzed and compared with those given by either official or comparison methods.
