Abstract

In conclusion, the present study indicates that (Oreochromis nilotica) from Egyptian environment can be used as islet donor because its blood glucose background is similar to that in human. And that xenografted Brockmann bodies are also effective in reversing experimental diabetes. Also, the results revealed that the using of genotoxic agents in immunomodulation can be summarized as following: (1) Prolongation of graft survival could be achieved also for the fish- to- mouse model after application of Mitomycin C treatment. (2) The system is applicable not only for MMC-treated islets but also for the other applied genotoxic agents (Cisplatin and Cytarabine). (3) Variable graft prolongation periods were obtained from different genotoxic agents. In addition the prolongation of graft survival in the present study after islet treatment with the genotoxic agents may be attributed to the decline in cytokines and nitric oxide. (4) The used of these genotoxic drugs as immunomodulatory agents in immunomodulation of islet graft protecting tilapia BBs xenografts without causing adverse effects in alloxan-induced diabetic male mice or tilapia BBs’ metabolism.
