Abstract

Cationic surface active agents are important type of surfactants due to their in corporation in several applications in this thesis cationic surfactants were synthesized based on the synthesis of akyl bis- bromo acetamide, synthesis of mono-quaternary phosphonium compounds , synthesis of mono-quaternary phosphonium compounds , synthesis of mono-quaternary hexamethyl phosphorus triamides , synthesis of alkyl bis-quaternary hexamethyl phosphorus triamides , synthesis of biphenyl bis- quaternary , synthesis of metal complexes of Cu and Co for the synthesized compounds. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed .Then synthesized cationic surfactants and their metal complexes were evaluated as surface active agents and evaluated as biocides for different microorganisms. Four selected compound were evaluated as biocides for metal working oils compared with commercial biocide, the results show that two synthesized compounds meet the specification limits for all tests . So each of them are suitable to use as biocides for metal working oil formulations. The cost benefit were indicated that one compound has lower cost with 37% then that of commercial one, accordingly can be recommended as biocide for metal working oil formulations.
