Abstract This dissertation covers almost all major topics that are needed as an introduction in digital logic design course with application to computer organization. It is divided into five chapters, and three appendices. It is organized as follows: Chapter 1 Intelligent Tutoring System: This chapter presents the architecture of a web-based intelligent tutoring system shell that can be adapted to courses in engineering and sciences. Chapter 2 Digital Design: This chapter covers almost all major topics that are needed as an introduction in digital logic design with application to computer architecture. It is mainly interested in the application of Boolean algebra in constructing digital circuits using elements called gates. Chapter 3 Computer Architecture: This chapter presents the details of computer architecture components. These components include presenting fundamental computer architecture issues using employing visual aids to teach fundamentals concepts like Decoders, Multiplexers, Demultiplexers, latches and Flip flops. Chapter 4 Modeling Strategy: This chapter illustrates the development of an intelligent tutoring tool for Digital Logic Design. Our objective is to design and implement multimedia based computerized teaching aids that are based on self-directed learning (SDL) approach. Chapter 5 Applied Programs: There are many application programs in this field: First application describes the CPU design. Second application is the calculator performs Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division on 8 digit signed floating point numbers. Third application illustrates methodology for specifying, designing, modeling, simulating, controlling, analyzing and verifying complex artifacts that interact with a changing environment. |
