Abstract

This investigation was carried out at the experimental farm of Rice Research and Training Center (RRTC), Sakha, Kafr El-Sheikh, Egypt, during the three growing seasons of 2004, 2005 and 2006. The objectives of this investigation were to study: Study the different kinds of Heterosis for floral and yield characters to increase the out crossing rate for parental lines of hybrid rice. - Estimates of combining ability in diallel crosses (without reciprocal) for six lines :Giza178,Giza182,GZ5121-5-2R,HVR2,PR2 and PR78. - study the gene action by estimating the genetic parameter by two methods Hayman1954 and Griffing1956, and how to use this parameters to produce the hybrids and rice improvement. - The important floral traits had been studied for restorer lines in the first generation and parents to increase the out crossing rate. The parents Giza178, Giza182, PR2 and PR78 were the best combiners for these traits in breeding programe. While the best highest desirable SCA effects for all studied characters were detected for the crosses Giza178 x HVR2, Giza182 x PR2, Giza178 x Giza182, Giza182 x GZ5121-5-2R and HVR2 x PR2.
