Abstract

Low back pain is a widespread and costly health problem in many countries. Back pain is one of the most common reason people see health care providers. It has been estimated that up to 80% of the world’s population will suffer from back pain at some part of their lives, with the lower back as the most common site of pain. The herniated disc has been though to be the principal cause of all LBP and pain referred from the back.
The result of this study indicate that patient with LDP who received cupping therapy and therapeutic exercise displayed clinical improvement in pain and tenderness when comparing with pre-treatment level. Also there is improvement in back pain – specific functional status (ODI) and measurement of lumbar movement.
Comparison of patients treated with cupping therapy and patients treated with physical therapy and the same therapeutic exercise program displayed significant better improvement in patients received cupping therapy in the same outcomes.
• Further studies of cupping therapy are recommended which should include large number of patients and different type of cupping.
• It is recommended to conduct clinical large sample studies for evaluation of the efficacy of cupping therapy in the management of various types of pain and rheumatological diseases.
• Collaboration between modern and traditional medicine might increasingly be considered a more effective approach to therapy.
• It is advised to integrate an alternative medicine curriculum to be added to the western medical curriculum teached at medical schools.
