Abstract

Glucocorticoids (GCs) are strong anti-inflammatory drugs which were discovered in 1948.
Corticosteroid can have tremendous therapeutic benefits but can also cause severe side effects and toxicities .
One of the most important side effect of Gcs is osteoporosis.
Glucocorticoid-induced bone loss should be prevented, and if present, should be treated .
Bisphosphonates seem to be the first choice of pharmacological intervention for prevention and treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis .
Bisphosphonates should be used in conjunction with calcium and vitamin D supplementation.
