Abstract Three handred and sixty rats and rabbits, in equal numbers, were divided into 4 equal grops. The first group composed of 45 rats and 45 rabbits. This group was divided into 3 equal sub groups which were given 1/10, 1/20 and 1/40 LD50 of zinc phosphide. The second group composed of 45 rats and 45 rabbits. This group was divided into 3 equal sub groups which were given 1/10, 1/20 and 1/40 LD50 of endrin. The third group composed of 45 rats and 45 rabbits. This group was divided into 3 equal sub groups which were given 1/10, 1/20 and 1/40 LD50 of the mixture of the two rodenticides. The fourth group composed of 45 rats and 45 rabbits. This group was divided into 3 equal sub groups and used as a control. The mortality rate induced by zinc phosphide was higher than endrin and than the mixture. Emaciation, epistaxis and watery diarrhea were the most prominent clinical signs among rats poisoned with zinc phosphid, endrin and the mixture of the two. Rabbits poisoned with zinc phosphid showed also the same clinical symptoms. Dullness, rapid respiratory rate and inability to rise were the most clear clinical signs among rabbits poisoned with endrin. |
