Abstract The aim of this work was to study the .incidence of proteinuria and the degree of renal changes in asymp- tomatic patients with active S. mansoni infestation. This study was conducted on 240 patients with active S. mansoni infestation. Thorough history taking and careful examination were carried for all oases. Asymptomatic patients with active S. mansoni and proteinuria were admitted to the nephrology department of urology and nephroLogy centre where they were investigated to exclude any systemic disease which can explain the proteinuria, to evaluate renal function and to perform kidney biopsy. Proteinuria was detected in 20% of cases without significant relation to the size of spleen and liver. Renal biopsy was perfonned in 15 patients out of the 48 patients with active S. mansoni and proteinuria. |
