Abstract It was aimed in this study to evaluate the pre¬valence of obesity in an Egyptian village in Dakahlia province ”and to identify as far as possible its predisposing factors. The village chosen for this work is an ordinary village lying 30 kilometer east of Mansoura and is called AI-Hassina, Its public health unit was under the supervision of the candidate for five years previously with many good relations, mutual understanding and confidence between its inhabitants and the candidate. The weight and height of each individual was carried out. An individual exceeding 10 % of ,his ideal weight was considered obese. Obesity was classified into Iflild, moderate and severe according to the cri t- eria of Dillon (1973). Determination of obesity was also carried out using the skinfold caliper : Triceps skinfold thickness in females and subscapular in males . Obesity was also classified according to fold thickness into mild, moderate and severe. |
