Abstract

The purpose of this research was to compare total-etch versus self-etch adhesive systems regarding microtensile bond strength, degree of conversion and antibacterial activity. For microtensile bond strength evaluation, ten specimens were prepared for each bonding agent and subjected to tensile load until failure with the use of a universal testing machine. The percentages of degree of conversion for the three bonding agents used in the study were measured using the Fourior Transformation Infrard Spectroscopy. The antibacterial effects of total-etch adhesive and the self-etch adhesives were evaluated. After incubation, zones of inhibited bacterial growth were observed and measured. The study showed different values for different bonding agents used in the study.
