Abstract The interaction of some sulphonylurea hypoglycemic agents: glibenclamide, gliclazide, glipizide, glimepiride and one of the diuretics named indapamide with β-CD in aqueous solutions has been investigated using voltammetric and spectrophotometric methods. Also, two voltammetric and spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the determination of the suggested drugs in their tablet dosage forms. Hence, the overall work in this thesis can be summarized as follows: I. In chapter one we present a literature survey on the drugs under study, cyclodextrins and the various reported methods to determine stability constants of drugs-cyclodextrin complexes. A brief survey on the theory of cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry and Ultra Violet- Visible Spectrophotometry has been also given. II. Chapter two includes the experimental part of the work involving the equipments, materials and reagents used in the present study, the preparation of phosphate buffer and the stock solutions of the compounds under study and recommended procedures for the analysis of the tested drugs. Methods for determination the stability constants of drugs-β-cyclodextrin complexes have been also given. III. Chapter three includes the electrochemical behaviour, the absorption spectra of the tested drugs and the results for the interaction between these drugs and β-CD in aqueous medium. |
