Abstract

The importance of veterinary management in rabbit production aims to improve productivity and profitability of rabbit projects which helps solving the problems of malnutrition and protein shortage in the developing countries including Egypt, through good quality breeding stock, proper program of sanitation and disinfection, diseases control, proper feeding program, proper vaccination and medication program, proper management and accurate veterinary supervision in addition to increasing the efficiency of each of these resources in order to increase the profitability and the return of rabbit projects with minimum cost. The aim of this study was to throw the light on the most important factors under Egyptian conditions that affect productive and economic efficiency of rabbit production and the role of veterinary management in rabbit production farms. The results of the present study revealed that There was a high correlation between the different resources that affect the rabbit production especially drugs, vaccines, disinfectant and return and total cost. In addition, the most important factor determining the profitability of rabbit farms was the litter size. Although the cost of total veterinary management (drugs, vaccine, disinfectant, veterinary supervision) was very low (about 1-3 % from total cost) but had a great effect on the profitability of rabbit farms through the prevention of diseases and the increase in the productivity of rabbits.
