Abstract The present investigation was carried out at mostored agricultural experiment farm, faculty of agriculture, Al-Azhar university, A. R. E. during 1972 and 1973 seasons. The objective of the investigation was to study the effect of harvesting date on yield, yield components, chemical constituents and other agronomic characteristics in suga beet, beta vulgaris. Also the present study was conducted to determine the optimal number of plants that should be left per hill and the appropriate number of root may be allowed to grow per hill to obtain the best yield and root quality. Sugar beet was seeded on April 18th in 1972 and December 1st in 1972. The harvesting dates investigated in this study were at 165, 80, 195 and 210 days old from sowing. Thinning the sugar beet plants to one, two, three and four roots per hill was carried out to study the effect of number of plant per hill on sugar beet. The experiment was laid out in a strip plot design with three replications in 1972 and four replications in 1973. |
