Abstract

This disertation covers the study of the effect of water management and nitrogen levels on rice growth, yield and yield components and N, P, and K percent and content in rice shoots, also determine water requirements and consumptive use of rice and to study the effect of paddling and paddy cultivation of rice on some physical and chemical properties of the soil.
Field work and laboratory techniques were carried out at Sakha agricultural research station through 1978, 1979, and 1980 seasons. Rice variety Giza 171 was planted in 1978 growing season and Giza 172 variety in both 1979 and 1980 growing season. All cultural practices except the factors under study were carried out as common practices in the area.
The experimental design was split-plot with four replicates. The main plots were randomly assigned to three irrigation treatment in 1978 growing season and increased to five irrigation treatment in both 1979 and 1980 growing seasons and the sub-plot to three nitrogen levels. Irrigation treatment were I1, watering at every 4 days interval raising the submerged head to 15 cm. I2, watering at every 4 days interval raising the submerged head to 10 cm. I3, watering at every 4 days interval raising the submerged depth to 5 cm.
