Abstract
To investigate the geological history, sedimentological processes and the environment of deposition of the subsurface sedimentary Neogene - Quaternary section in the northern part of the Nile Delta area, several analyses of representative samples have been carried out. These include composition and textural analyses, mineralogical and microlithofacies investigations of samples taken from the different rock units of the subsurface section as subdivided by Rizzini et al. (1976). Moreover, isopach and lithofacies maps of the sedimentary basins in the Delta area since the late Miocene have been constructed and interpreted. However, these studies are briefly outlined below.
