Abstract

Two field experiments were earned out during the summer seasons of 2000 and 200 I at Sakha Agricultural Research Station, KafT EIShiekh Governorate, to investigate the response of maize to nitrogen as soil fertilizer, bio-fertilizer as seed inoculation and compost materials from rice straw as organic fertilizer.
A split split plot design with four replications was used in the two seasons of study.
The main plots were devoted to nitrogen fertilizer levels 0,25,50,75,100 and 125% of the recommended dose (120 kg N/fed.)
The sub-plots were allocated to organic manure (with and without additions of 5 tons/fed).
The sub-sub-plots were assigned for bio-fertilizer (with and without seed inoculation). The plot area was (3.5 m long and 3.0 m width.
o The N fertilizer rates were spited to three equal doses, the first dose was added before planting, the second was prior to the first irrigation. While the third dose was added prior the second irrigation.
All the obtained data were statistically analyzed by the methods described by Cochran and Cox (1960).
The main results could he summarized as follows:
« Maize plant height was highly significant increased with increasing mineral nitrogen level up to 150 Kg I fed, The highest mean values of plant height were 317.50 and 335,75 cm for the two seasons 2000 and 2001 respectively. Also, organic N fertilization has a significant effect on maize plant height for the two seasons, The highest mean value was recorded for organic fertilizer (278,25 and 284,83 for the Ist and 2nd season respectively). Moreover, biological fertilization has z significant effect on maize plant high for the both seasons.
