Abstract

In intensive poultry production. the nutritional requirements and especially the relatively high amounts of protein needed are considered the major factors limiting the economic efficiency of production. Part of dietary protein in poultry rations should be of animal protein source. Protein supplecular, should be chosen carefully for both their bioligical value and price. Locally produced blood meal is usually sold at a reasenable price and may be an alternative to the expensively imported fish meal.
This study was undertaken in order to study the effect of feeding varying levels of crude protein (cp) using either fish meal or blood meal as animal protein supplements on the performance some blood, parameters and caracass quality of growing Dokki 4 and Rhode Island Red (R.I.R.) chicks.
Two experiments were conducted at the Faoulty of Agriculture, University of Mansoura; In each experiment, four i60- caloric diets containing either 15, 17, 19 or 21% cp were formulated. In experiment 1, fish meal was used as an animal protein source, while blood meal was used in experiment.
2. 2. Each animal protein source represented 23 to 24% of the otal cp of each level. In each experiment. four groups of 44 Chicks each at the day of hatch from each of Dokki 4 and R.I.R. breeds were alloted at random to receive one ofthe four experimental diets up to 12 weeks of age. Live weight, feed intake, serum total protein and. blood haemoglobin were recorded and determined at biweekly intervals. Caracass quality was evaluated at the age of 12 weeks.
