Abstract In the present study, attempts have been made to investigate the biochemical alterations resulted from Cd¬induced toxicity on brain and testis. Also, histopathological changes in liver, brain and testis, and its effects on rat fertility. Also, histochemical changes for different types of carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids were studied. ?¬carotene was used as a powerful antioxidant against Cd¬induced liver, brain and testis toxicity. The present study established that CdCl2 is a toxic heavy metal particularly for liver, brain and testis as confirmed biochemically, histopathologically and histochemically. Also, ?¬carotene has been found to be ameliorative against CdCl2¬induced toxicity owing to its antioxidant property. So a balanced diet including fresh vegetables which contain ?¬carotene is advisable particularly to workers subjected to heavy metal pollution. |
