Abstract

the purpose of this study was to evaluate alkali and heat-treated titanium implant material in a trial to create better treatment conditions for obtaining a bioactive metallic implant material. the following conclusions can be made: 1. untreated titanium specimens showed the least surface roughness values and no signs of any bioactive reaction. 2. alkali-treated specimens for 48 hours showed higher surface roughness and better signs of bioactive reaction. 3. during heat-treatment, the role of temperature was obvious, particularly at 800° c. 4. increasing alkali-treatment period together with increasing temperature of heat-treatment above 700° c are recommended for better bioactivity.
