Abstract Stroke is a serious and common health problem. Increasingly, individuals that are surviving strokes are older and living longer post-stroke. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between caregivers training and health status outcomes of cerebral stroke elderly patients. The study was carried out on 40 elderly patients with cerebral stroke and their caregivers. Data was collected using 7 tools. The main results are: No statistically significance was found between anxiety levels before and after the training and a statistically significant difference of QOL, level of depression, activities of daily living, before and after the training program was found. A statistically significant difference was found between caregiver’s total knowledge and practices score before & after the program. It can be concluded that the higher caregivers knowledge and practices, the high patients level of independence, low level of anxiety & depression, and a good quality of life. The main recommendations are: Emphasize the importance of providing support and appropriate follow-up care in hospitals and out patient’s clinics. Educational programs for both elders with cerebral stroke and caregivers (formal & informal) should be planned for and offered on a regular basis in hospitals about stroke and its managements. |
