Abstract The present thesis is devoted for developing new methods for the analysis of certain central nervous system stimulant compounds, namely: ephedrine HCl, phenylpropanolamine HCl and pseudoephedrine HCl, either in pure forms or in pharmaceutical preparations. A sensitive spectrophotometric method was proposed for the determination of ephedrine HCl, phenylpropanolamine HCl and pseudoephedrine HCl, based on utilizing 2, 4 dinitrofluorobenzene reagent. A simple spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of ephedrine HCl, phenylpropanolamine HCl was accomplished, depending on oxidation with Ce (IV) ions. The method was successfully applied for the determination of ephedrine HCl, phenylpropanolamine HCl in tablet and ampoule formulations. Ephedrine HCl and phenylpropanolamine HCl were also determined by a spectrophotometric method by the use of Ce (IV) and p-dimethylamino benzaldehyde reagents. The method was applied for the determination of both drugs in tablet and ampoule dosage forms. A spectrophotometric charge transfer method was applied for the determination of phenylpropanolamine HCl using 2, 3, 5, 6 tetrachloro-1, 4-benzoquinone and acetaldehyde reagents. The method was applied for the determination of phenylpropanolamine HCl in tablet as well as in capsule and syrup dosage forms. |
