Abstract Fluoride is one of the most strong toxic agent that could impair body systems as it increased oxidative stress, cause formation of ROS, as well as damage molecular structure. Forty adult male rats weighing about 100-110 g divided into 4 groups (10 in each), (1) controul group (2) vitamin C treated group, (3) fluoride treated group. (4) fluoride and vitamin C treated group. Rats were supplied with normal laboratory diet and tap water and given both vitamin C and NaF by gastric intubation for 4 months. At the end of experimentation period, rats were sacrified, sera were collected for estimation of: serum CR, Blood Urea Nitrogen, Uric Acid, TBIL, TP, ALB, ALT, AST, ALP, LDH, Glucose, Total Cholesterol, Ca, Pi, F, Na, K, T3 , T4, MDA, SOD, and CAT. as well as parameters estimated in urine, MTP, NAG, CR, and F. Fluoride induced different changes in the experimental rats as: An increase in serum CR, BUN, uric acid, TBIL, ALT,AST, ALP, LDH, T3, T4, MDA, K, fluoride (F), and (Pi). And decrease in serum Na, Ca, SOD, and catalase (CAT). Also it was noticed that there were increase in urine NAG, MTP and fluoride, and decrease in creatinine clearance. The administration of vitamin C in concomitant with NaF reduced most of these abnormalities. |
