Abstract

Stem cell transplantation is a new promising therapy for PD. In the present study we tried to explore the regenerative capacity of umbilical cord derived stem cells in a PD model in mice. A chronic rotenone model with daily oral dose of 30mg/kg was induced in mice, another model (mptp/paraquat) was tried in mice. Intrathecal stem cells transplantation was tried in the present model, however the treatment began in the middle of rotenone course to challenge the neuroprotective effects of stem cells in a progressive model which is similar to real disease course. Further analysis of behavioral tests and immunohistochemistry revealed success of stem cells in improving the rotenone intoxicated mice. These results showed possible neuroprotectant capacities of intrathecal transplantation of stem cells in a chronic oral rotenone model. Another study trying to explore the potential of CyD1 silencing role in MPTP in mice. This revealed potential neuroprotectant effect.
