Abstract The (ICU) is considered one of the most important units of the hospital as it contains many devices, modern systems and advanced medical practices. Due to the importance of this place; the design of the intensive care unit must be subjected to a number of criteria and standards; thus achieving the best health outcomes and economic levels. The design of (ICU) is supervised by an integrated and homogenous team of experts. The design must take into account several important things such as: the total area of the unit, the number of beds and the distance between them that must accommodate all necessary equipment to rescue the patient’s life. The unit must be equipped with all the vital utilities. The design should also pay attention to fire and electrical safety of the (ICU) staff. Psychological disorders among intensive care patients among with the spread of infection are considered the most serious problems facing the intensivist. |
